Water & Recreation
• Can I swim in Lake Blackshear? Yes. Swimming is permitted, and there is a designated public swimming beach inside Georgia Veterans State Park.
• Are there hazards for boaters? While the lake has cypress forests, standing dead timber, and underwater stumps, Lake Blackshear Marina staff are experienced in giving guidance to guests who rent boats or dock their own boat at from the marina.
• Where can I launch my boat? The lake features several county parks and a spacious, ADA-accessible boat ramp at the Lake Blackshear Retreat & Conference Center. A $10 state park day-pass or resort fee is required for entry.
Fishing
• What kind of fish are in the lake? Lake Blackshear is an active fishery for largemouth bass, crappie, striped bass, and catfish.
• Can I fish from the bank? Yes, bank fishing is permitted here, though the best fishing often happens around submerged structures and cypress trees using a boat.
• Do I need a fishing license? A valid Georgia fishing license is required and can be purchased at the Visitors Center.

• Where can I stay? You can book accommodations at the Lake Blackshear Retreat & Conference Center villas, stay in park cabins, enjoy glamping tents, or use the RV and tent campgrounds.
• What are popular land activities? Visitors can explore the Military Museum, play the 18-hole Georgia Veterans Memorial Golf Course, or take a ride on the SAM Shortline excursion train.
